The History ofMalahide Castle
Malahide Castle was originally built and gifted to the Talbot Family in 1174, Over the centuries, rooms and fortifications were added, modified and strengthened until the castle took on its current form. The Castle is filled with a rich family history and a unique collection of artwork, furniture and architecture compiled over the eight centuries of the Talbots tenure.
With many rooms remaining the same as when the final Baron de Malahide lived in the Castle, The Talbot family sold the property to the Irish State in 1975 who have since worked to preserve its magnificent beauty and history.
